Blue Cross Wins National E-Commerce Honor
Columbia, S.C. – Network World awarded Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina an Honorable Mention in its "E-Comm Innovator of the Year Award" results published by the magazine this week.
One Innovator of the Year and 10 honorable mentions were awarded. Referencing Blue Cross' interactive customer service section My Insurance Manager on its Web site, SouthCarolinaBlues.com, Network World called it a "worthy project" and a "prescription for convenience."
Network World's annual award competition honors companies with "extraordinary" business-to-business e-commerce initiatives. The magazine states that these companies have advanced the use of e-commerce technology while supporting business objectives, have carefully considered business plans, intimate knowledge of their customers and strong technology underpinnings. Entries were open to all industries.
"We are profoundly pleased that our work to provide superb interactive, real time customer service functions for policyholders and providers on our Web site has been recognized with this honor from a national organization," said Stephen K. Wiggins, senior vice president and CIO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina.
This is the company's seventh national award related to SouthCarolinaBlues.com since the Web site was launched in late 1999. The others include an eHealthcare Leadership Award from eHealthcare Strategy & Trends magazine, a Best of Blues Award for electronic media and interactive programs from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN) magazine's Most Wired Innovator 2000 Award, a Merit Award in the insurance category of Health Information Resource Center's 2000 World Wide Web Health Awards program, CIO magazine's Web Business 50/50 Award based on innovation in Internet sites, and CIO's CIO-100 Award for exemplary customer service.
Based in Columbia, S.C., Blue Cross covers over 1.3 million people in South Carolina and is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. It makes its My Insurance Manager functionality available to other insurance and managed care companies through its subsidiary company, Companion Information Management Resources (CIMR), also based in Columbia.
