Participation Is Important

June 02, 2011

We’re happy to announce a new process to help renewing employer’s health plans that do not meet participation guidelines stay with us.

As an employer’s health plan approaches its renewal date, we perform a participation audit to be sure they still meet the participation guidelines. If they no longer meet the guidelines, we now allow them to hold a special enrollment period to get back to their appropriate participation level. The special enrollment allows them to submit applications and health statements for full-time employees. We will re-evaluate them based on currently enrolled employees and newly enrolled employees.

As a reminder, our participation guidelines are:

Total Full-time Eligible Employees
Allowed Number of Employees Not Electing Coverage
 Less than 4
 0
 4-7  1
 8-11  3
 12-14  4
 15 or more
Minimum 60 percent of total full-time eligible employees

  • If an employer contributes 100 percent of employees’ individual premiums, then 100 percent of all eligible employees must be enrolled.
  • For groups of 15 or more eligible employees, Medicare waivers do not count against participation.

Please contact your marketing representative with any questions.
