Kicking Our Tires

July 07, 2011

Would you buy a car without checking it out first? Of course you wouldn’t. Now, we can’t let a group “test drive” our coverage, but we can let you submit its medical history for a prescreen to determine risk. You can kick our tires. All you have to do is submit some information to our New Business Processing Unit.

Beginning August 1, Groups with 2–20 enrolled employees must submit these to be prescreened:

  • Completed Group Request for Coverage
  • Health statement (long form)
  • Completed application for each employee
  • Proposal
  • Companion Life Master Application (Companion Life is a separate life insurance company that does not provide BlueCross products. These products are offered by Companion Life, not BlueCross. BlueCross has no responsibility for these products.)

Our underwriters will evaluate the information to determine a risk assessment and rating for the group. The New Business Processing Unit will then offer you a rate with contingencies based on satisfaction of the participation requirement. With this process, groups can get a rate offer without having to submit prior carrier bills or wage documentation. The offered rate will not change as long as the group does not change the effective date or have enrollment eligibility issues. Changing the effective date or enrollment information will require the group to be sent back through underwriting.

Groups with more than 20 employees can submit for prescreening directly to Underwriting as they currently do.
