New Rates, Applications and Underwriting Guidelines for Medicare Supplements

Effectively immediately, we are implementing new applications and underwriting guidelines for our Medicare supplement policies. Please read the following important information regarding these changes.

New Lower Rates

We are excited to announce that all plans with effective dates of June 1, 2010 or later now have lower rates. We have already begun to inform members of their new rates, which are effective in October. Supplies will be available on Storefront soon.

New Applications

If you have recently submitted any applications using the old forms, we will process them as usual. We will return any old applications submitted after today.

New Underwriting Guidelines

Under the new guidelines, any existing BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina member with an effective date prior to June 1, 2010 must answer health questions when switching to a plan with better benefits (unless a special enrollment period applies) and when requesting the reduced rates on his/her current plan.
