BlueCross Wins Palmetto Pillar Technology Award for Customer Service on its Web Site

Columbia, SC -- BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is pleased to announce that it won the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Information Technology Council's (ITC) Palmetto Pillar Award for Technology Development at a ceremony here last night.

The Technology Development category award recognizes an organization for the development of a new or improved technology-based product, process or service that may be used for internal or commercial use. BlueCross was recognized for its Web site, SouthCarolinaBlues.com, featuring My Insurance Manager, a secure section offering numerous customer service transactions to policyholders and physician organizations. The company was the first in its industry nationwide to offer such extensive customer self-service on the Web with real time information.

"We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from the Palmetto Pillar awards program. We're especially proud that 81,000 members and more than 8,500 physicians are registered and benefiting from the ease of use of My Insurance Manager," said Tom Faulds, president and chief operating officer for the BlueCross division, which includes BlueCross insurance products and Companion Healthcare HMO.

The ITC recognized one winner in each of six categories. "Each of this year's Pillars provides our community a valuable and exemplary service," said ITC Recognition Committee Chairman Walter Perkins. "Whether it's one person or a business of thousands, they make significant contributions to the Midlands economy. It's an honor for this organization to bestow our first-ever Palmetto Pillar Awards on these groups and individuals."
