SC BlueCross Physician to Take Part in Launch of Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign

February 26, 2013

Dr. Lena Bretous, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s medical director of Clinical Innovation and Population Health, will be among the speakers at a Center for Colon Cancer Research event to highlight the importance of colon cancer screenings.

Scientists will join cancer survivors and physicians at 11 a.m. on Feb. 27 at the Jones Physical Sciences Center, room 614, 712 Main Street, Columbia.

Dr. Bretous will briefly discuss the “Love Your Colon” campaign and the importance of partnerships in the fight against colon cancer.

Other presenters will discuss upcoming public awareness activities and share important facts about the disease. Media will have an opportunity to hear personal stories from those who beat colon cancer and get valuable insight from doctors on what the public should know about the disease, the second leading cause of cancer death in South Carolina.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and a schedule of upcoming activities statewide will be released at Wednesday’s event.
