Columbia, S.C. -- BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina announces the promotion of Kim Wellman to assistant vice president of corporate marketing communications and public relations. In her new position, Wellman oversees employee communications, media relations, community relations, corporate charitable giving, corporate branding adherence, marketing communications campaigns and creative services for the entire corporation. Wellman joined BlueCross in 1995 as a communications specialist in the corporate communications division. In 2006, she was named director of the communications department. Earlier this year, she assumed leadership of the combined communications and public relations departments. Wellman and her staff have won numerous awards from the Columbia Advertising Club, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the International Association for Business Communicators and other communications societies. Wellman earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and master’s degree in mass communications with an emphasis in integrated marketing communications both from the University of South Carolina. A graduate of Leadership Columbia, she also has earned the prestigious Accredited Public Relations (APR) designation from the national PRSA. Wellman currently serves on communications committees for the United Way of the Midlands and SC PRSA. She also is a volunteer tutor with the Midlands Reading Consortium. She has previously served as president of the board of directors for Palmetto Place Children’s Emergency Shelter and as president of the Junior Woman’s Club of Columbia.
