Columbia, S.C. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will continue providing administrative services to South Carolina’s Medicaid program under a new five-year contract the company was awarded by the state Department of Health & Human Services. Medicaid, administered by DHHS, is the federal- and state-funded health care program for low-income and disabled residents. The contract is for services that include claims processing support, provider enrollment and training, prior authorization support, reference file updates, electronic data interchange support, and more. BlueCross has provided these services to DHHS since 1990. Approximately 100 BlueCross employees are assigned to the contract. According to DHHS, approximately 30,000 health care providers and 803,000 beneficiaries are enrolled in South Carolina’s Medicaid program. “We appreciate the confidence the state Department of Health & Human Services has placed in BlueCross and its employees to continue providing outstanding service and value to the Medicaid program and its beneficiaries,” said Keith Gardner, vice president of Medicaid Operations at S.C. BlueCross.
