Camden, S.C. – The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation presented a check for $44,354 to Kershaw County School District and honored its commitment to children at a lunch event today in Camden attended by educators, community and business leaders and elected officials. The school district will use the funds to implement the OrganWise Guys Comprehensive School Program at Doby’s Mill Elementary and Jackson School, with all Kershaw County School District elementary schools participating in the program’s Food of the Month efforts. “We view this collaboration between our school district, the BlueCross Foundation and the OrganWise Guys team as a wonderful, healthy partnership,” said Superintendent Frank Morgan. “This will help improve the health and academic achievement of children through obesity prevention activities.” This was the second of several events that the foundation is hosting in the next several months around the state to present its latest round of grants and honor the recipients in front of education, community and business leaders along with other dignitaries. Since the Foundation was established in 2003, it has allocated more than $37.8 million to address issues such as childhood health, community health, mental health, obesity, diabetes, nursing and health research, and the increasing need for free medical clinics.
