BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Designates 14 Facilities as Blue Distinction® Centers for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery

Because the opioid epidemic continues to be a threat to the public health of South Carolinians, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has named 14 treatment facilities as Blue Distinction Centers for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery — a designation acknowledging providers that deliver high quality care with the best health outcomes.

Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated facilities that show a commitment to delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the community and leading accreditation and quality organizations. 

 

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Announces Statewide Initiative To Markedly Improve Health Outcomes through Diabetes Free SC

Long before the coronavirus pandemic put a spotlight on health disparities faced by African-Americans, South Carolinians were plagued by the epidemic of diabetes, which also disproportionately affects vulnerable populations. While there are existing stakeholders hoping to reduce the incidence of diabetes, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation are joining together with several organizations well-established in the trenches of diabetes care, including the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina and the state’s Department of Health and Environmental Control, to launch Diabetes Free SC (DFSC), a long-term, multi-million dollar, statewide initiative dedicated to addressing these disparities in care in three strategic directions: improved pregnancy outcomes in women with diabetes; reduced lifelong risk of diabetes in children; and the prevention of diabetes and its complications in adults.
