ACA Special Enrollment Period Extends to August 15 2021April 1, 2021 The special enrollment period for the exchange insurance market has been extended until Aug. 15, 2021. The federal government reopened the exchange Feb. 15, 2021, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is estimated that 15 million Americans lack insurance and are eligible for Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage. Many are eligible for free or reduced-cost coverage.

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Announces Statewide Initiative To Markedly Improve Health Outcomes through Diabetes Free SCJuly 13, 2020 Long before the coronavirus pandemic put a spotlight on health disparities faced by African-Americans, South Carolinians were plagued by the epidemic of diabetes, which also disproportionately affects vulnerable populations. While there are existing stakeholders hoping to reduce the incidence of diabetes, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation are joining together with several organizations well-established in the trenches of diabetes care, including the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina and the state’s Department of Health and Environmental Control, to launch Diabetes Free SC (DFSC), a long-term, multi-million dollar, statewide initiative dedicated to addressing these disparities in care in three strategic directions: improved pregnancy outcomes in women with diabetes; reduced lifelong risk of diabetes in children; and the prevention of diabetes and its complications in adults.
