What is the 2021 COVID-19 SEP?
President Biden has issued an Executive Order to re-open the Marketplace exchange due to the COVID-19 pandemic, giving Americans who still need health coverage the opportunity to enroll or change plans if they are already enrolled.
When will this SEP begin?
Under the Executive Order, the enrollment period will begin on February 15, 2021 and run until August 15, 2021.
How is this different than the typical SEP?
During the Feb. 15 – August 15 SEP, eligible consumers will not need a qualifying life event to submit a new application or update an existing application on HealthCare.gov.
Will this SEP be available for Private Market and Off-Exchange enrollments?
Yes.
When will coverage purchased during this SEP begin?
For consumers who take advantage of this SEP, coverage will be effective beginning the first of the month after plan selection.
Will there be any documentation required for this new SEP?
No. Any eligible consumer will be able to submit a new application or update an existing application. Documentation to validate a qualifying life event will not be required for this SEP.
