BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is committed to supporting veterans, reservists, guard members and military families. From supportive policies and benefits to recognition and community, we are proud to be a place where those who served can thrive.

BlueCross is certified by Operation Palmetto Employment (OPE) as one of South Carolina's Palmetto Military Employers. Employers with this certification are known to actively hire and retain veterans and service members — it’s a sign of our commitment to the military community.

We also know flexibility matters. That’s why we offer:

  • Military leave policy to protect your time away for service.
  • Military caregiver leave policy to support families who provide care.
  • The full difference between civilian and military pay for reservists and Guard members during military leave periods.
  • Flexible scheduling and remote work options that make balancing work and service possible.

Major General (Ret.) Todd B. McCaffrey, South Carolina's Secretary of Veterans' Affairs, honors BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina with the South Carolina Veteran-Friendly Employer Recognition Program certificate of gold standard.

Your growth and development

When you join BlueCross, you’ll have the support of in-house leadership and professional development programs to help you reach your career goals. We also offer tuition assistance and financial support for certificates, degrees and civilian credentials.

Veterans with disabilities

BlueCross is committed to hiring and supporting veterans with disabilities. We partner with the Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Veterans Service Organizations that focus on hiring initiatives and boosting support.

Military Business Resource Group

Our Military Business Resource Group helps create a welcoming community for military employees and others in the organization who wish to support them. Together, we provide care packages to deployed service members, volunteer with organizations that support the military community (like the USO, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Big Red Barn Retreat, Quilts of Valor, and Blue Star Mothers), and collect donations to support the operations of these local partners.

Community partnerships

We don’t do this alone. We build strong ties with military and veteran organizations to better serve you. Some of our efforts include:

  • Regular participation in the Fort Jackson Transition Assistance Program.
  • Supporting the Veterans Service Project, put on by the SC Veteran Coalition, through a grant provided by the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation.
  • Hosting stakeholder roundtables with organizations that support service members, spouses, and families.
  • Taking part in veteran job fairs, awareness programs, and professional development events.
