BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Puts Community First in Annual “Doing Good Works” Volunteer Day
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina proudly celebrated its fifth annual “Doing Good Works Day” on Saturday, April 26, continuing its strong tradition of community service and corporate social responsibility.
This year, over 500 employees volunteered at 35 nonprofit sites across South Carolina. Sites ranged from food banks and animal shelters to community gardens and housing support organizations. Each location was supported by 10 to 25 BlueCross volunteers, tackling projects such as sorting donations, landscaping, organizing community spaces and delivering meals.
BlueCross also provided opportunities for those residing outside of South Carolina. More than 100 employees participated by writing letters to military members, knitting blankets for Children’s Cancer Partners and preparing meals with Lasagna Love for neighbors in need.
"We're so proud of our employees for their dedication to serving our local community. Their enthusiasm and hard work truly reflect our company's values and our commitment to making a positive impact. It's amazing to see the difference we can make together," said Elizabeth Nkuo Johnson, community relations director at BlueCross.
This year marked the largest volunteer turnout and the highest number of service hours in the program’s five-year history. Since its inception in 2019 as “Day of Service,” the event has more than doubled in size, reinforcing BlueCross’ role as a leading corporate citizen and champion for community impact.
