2022 CMS Creditable Coverage

September 29, 2021

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will email Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) Creditable Coverage letters to Group Administrators prior to the start of Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period which begins on Oct. 15. Groups will have either received a CREDITABLE or NON-CREDITABLE coverage letter depending on the group’s medical plan and members enrolled. The letters outline, in detail, if the group has creditable coverage or non-creditable coverage, how to proceed and when. You can view a copy of these letters here.

Included in each letter is a notice that must be given to Medicare-eligible employees (and eligible dependents) covered under the group plan. Members with creditable coverage can choose to continue their current drug coverage or enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Those who have coverage that is non-creditable should consider enrolling in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan for more assistance with drug costs.

If the member chooses to enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, open enrollment runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 of this year.

Plan administrators also received notice on how to notify CMS of their creditable or non-creditable coverage status.
