Individual and Family Affordable Care Act (ACA) Premiums Are Due Dec. 31

Dec. 28, 2021

New members who purchased a health insurance plan with an effective date of Jan. 1, 2022, have until 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, to submit payment for their first month’s premium in order to use their benefits on Jan. 1. This payment deadline applies to all individual and family ACA plans bought either on- or off-exchange. View the communication we are sending to new members this week.

If enrollees fail to pay their premiums in time, their coverage may be terminated for 2022.

How to Verify Your Client’s Status

You can log in using the BASES tool to verify which of your clients have (or haven’t) paid their first month’s premium. In the BASES tool, you also have access to your client’s member ID number — this may be helpful for your clients who have not yet paid their first month’s premium. It is important that your clients pay their January premium no later than Dec. 31 in order to have coverage effective Jan. 1, 2022.
