Renew with Blue in 2023

Oct. 27, 2022

To help you prepare for Open Enrollment, we’ve outlined important information for members renewing individual and family ACA plans for 2023.

Renewal Communications

Members will receive 2023 renewal packages by mail no later than Oct. 31.

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will also send renewal reminders via email and text to members on the following dates*:

  • November 1
  • November 8
  • November 16
  • November 22
  • November 30
  • December 6
  • December 13

These communications will include:

  1. A call to action for the member to contact their agent.
  2. Content telling the member to ignore the message if they already renewed. We will remove members that have actively renewed from receiving future communications. However, due to timing there may be a member that just took action that gets a communication.
  3. Encouragement for active re-enrollments, especially members receiving subsidies.

Manage renewals using Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) and BASES
You can easily renew your clients using the Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) platform. Your book of business can be found on EDE and you can send mass emails with a custom renewal hyperlink to each of your clients.

You can also use BASES to see which of your clients have made changes to their plan and renewed for 2023.

The 2023 Enrollment Indicator column will display one of the following indicators:

  • “P” indicator means the renewal is currently passive. Any passive enrollment will automatically renew as is for 2023 with payment of the January premium.
  • “A” indicator means the member has made changes or actively renewed their coverage effective Jan. 1, 2023.
  • Blank/no indicator means we have not yet received a passive renewal from CMS. This only applies to FFM members.

New BlueCross members will also be displayed with an A indicator.

Please note that due to the volume of submissions during open enrollment, updates to BASES could be delayed three to five business days.

Passive renewals
If members do not want to make any changes to their current plan, or are not receiving financial assistance, all they need to do is pay their January premiums as billed.

Making the January 2023 payment will automatically renew the plan. Your clients will receive their January bills the week of Dec. 19.

Any clients who are setup on bank draft will have their 2023 premium drafted on Jan. 1, 2023.

Please contact your marketing representative if you have questions or need more information.
