Annual Creditable Coverage Letters Distributed

Oct. 16, 2023

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will email the annual Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) Creditable Coverage letters to Group Administrators prior to the start of Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period which begins on Oct. 15. Groups received either a CREDITABLE or NON-CREDITABLE coverage letter depending on the group’s medical plan and members enrolled.

The letters outline if the group has creditable coverage or non-creditable coverage and give details on how and when to proceed. Each letter includes a notice that must be given to Medicare-eligible employees (and eligible dependents) covered under the group plan.

Members with creditable coverage can choose to continue their current drug coverage or enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Those who have non-creditable coverage should consider enrolling in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

If the member chooses to enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, open enrollment runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 of this year.

Plan administrators also received notice on how to notify CMS of their creditable or non-creditable coverage status.
