FAQs for 2023 Medicare Supplement Rate Adjustment

BlueChoice® HealthPlan is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. 

Why is the amount I pay changing?

As the cost of health care continues to rise, we must adjust the premium cost of your plan to keep pace and still deliver the coverage you want backed by the security and stability of a BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina plan. 

How much will I pay?

The letter you received in the mail will provide your new payment amount. This amount will include both the plan rate change and the age increase (if applicable) that occurs annually. 

What can I do to lower my premium?

There may be discounts available to you just for being a BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina member. If you are not taking advantage of these discounts, we encourage you to do so. You can sign up for these discounts by contacting Customer Service at 800-868-2500, ext. 46401.

  • Bank draft discount: Save 6 percent on your premiums by signing up for auto bank draft. It is quick and easy to sign up, and you won’t have to worry about forgetting a payment. 
  • Household discount: You could save 5 percent on your premiums if you live with someone who is also enrolled in a Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield (in South Carolina or out of state) or BlueChoice® HealthPlan of South Carolina policy.

What are the eligibility requirements to receive the household discount?

Eligibility for the discount requires two or more members to reside at the same physical address, and they must be enrolled in a Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield or BlueChoice® policy.

What if I want to switch plans?

Reach out to your agent or call us toll free at 800-868-2500, ext. 46401, if you would like to switch to another BlueCross Medicare Supplement plan. Your agent’s contact information is provided in the letter you received. You will get confirmation of the plans you’re eligible to switch to and receive guidance on the differences between plans.
