Using correct coding is imperative when filing claims. Correct coding ensures accurate and proper payment.  It minimizes the risk of denials, and it allows for claims to be processed timely. 

Issues that affect correct coding:

• Invalid modifiers
• Incorrect number of units 
• Procedure code and diagnosis code inconsistency
• Filing codes that should be bundled
• Code doesn’t correspond with the patient’s age
• Filing unspecified codes

Verify that you have not made any of the above errors before submitting your claim for proper processing.
