If you have been receiving denials for bilateral procedure codes such as procedure code 19318, here is how to bill those procedure codes.

If performed on one side, bill with:

• One line
• One DUT
• A descriptive modifier (LT or RT) to identify side
• Payment will be 100 percent of allowable

If performed on both sides, bill with:

• One line
• One DUT
• A 50 modifier
• Payment will be 150 percent of allowable
