What is Blue VirtuConnect?

Blue VirtuConnect is virtual primary care platform that gives members access to providers without needing to visit a doctor’s office. 

What is a virtual visit?

Members log in to an online portal to see a primary care doctor for health issues, checkups or concerns. The doctor can: 

  • Provide routine care, such as annual physicals.
  • Prescribe medications.
  • Schedule labs or imaging at a local Doctors Care location.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Members can download the Blue VirtuConnect mobile app or visit www.VirtuConnectSC.com to set up an account.

How do I create an account?

Members can download the Blue VirtuConnect mobile app or visit www.VirtuConnectSC.com to set up an account. You will need a unique email address to get started. The platform will then send you a registration email to complete the process. You may add your dependents to your account, if applicable.

Do I need a phone or computer with a camera?

Video will help you see your provider face to face. However, you can talk with your provider by phone if you do not have a camera.

How do I schedule a virtual visit with my primary care provider?

Members can schedule same-day appointments with a doctor. Appointments can be made Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members can also message a doctor during and after business hours with any issues or concerns.

Is Blue VirtuConnect primary care?

Yes.

Can I see the same doctor at each appointment?

Yes.

What are the hours?

Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

What if I need an appointment outside of the stated hours?

The care team will work with you to schedule an appointment outside of regular operational hours.

Are the doctors on the Blue VirtuConnect platform in my network?

Yes.

How much does one appointment cost?

Members pay $0 for the first four visits and $10 for visits thereafter. There are no costs for messaging that occurs between the doctor and the member. 

How do I access the Blue VirtuConnect portal?

Members can download the Blue VirtuConnect mobile app or visit www.VirtuConnectSC.com to set up an account.

What if I want to access the portal on my smartphone? Is there an app?

Yes, the Blue VirtuConnect app is available to download for free in both the Apple and Google app stores.

Can I access the Blue VirtuConnect portal through My Health Toolkit®?

Yes. If you’re a Blue VirtuConnect member, you’ll be able to access your account through My Health Toolkit.

What if I forget my account password?

If you forget your login information after creating your account, you can reset your password through the Blue VirtuConnect app or by going to www.VirtuConnectSC.com

What if I am outside of South Carolina? Can I still use this platform for my visit?

Services are available for members in South Carolina and North Carolina. If a member is outside of these states, he or she can message a doctor to get answers to routine questions or to refill prescriptions. Members who are not in South Carolina or North Carolina who want virtual care for urgent issues can use Blue CareOnDemandSM.

Will everyone on my policy need an individual account?

No. The account can be set up under one account holder for everyone who is covered under the policy. 

Who do I call if I have questions relating to my benefits?

You can call BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina at 855-404-6752 with questions relating to your benefits.

Who do I call if I have a question regarding the Blue VirtuConnect platform or application?

You can email BlueVirtuConnectIssues@DoctorsCare.com. A team member will reach out to you for individualized help.

What if I don’t have a smart device?

Members can visit www.VirtuConnectSC.com on a laptop or desktop computer to set up an account and for visits.

What if I need a referral to a specialist?

A Blue VirtuConnect doctor can refer you to a specialist in your area.

Can I use Blue VirtuConnect for urgent care visits?

You can use Blue VirtuConnect for urgent health issues. For life-threatening situations, you should go to the emergency room.

What if I need an x-ray?

If your doctor determines you need an x-ray, he or she can schedule an appointment for you at a Doctors Care location.

What if I need blood drawn?

If your doctor determines you need bloodwork, he or she can schedule an appointment for you at a Doctors Care location.

What if I need a physical examination (i.e., listen to lungs, strep test, etc.)?

If your doctor determines you need a physical examination, he or she can schedule an appointment for you at a Doctors Care location.

What if I have a question for a nurse?

Members can send questions or concerns to the doctor via the chat feature within the online portal anytime. You can also email BlueVirtuConnectIssues@DoctorsCare.com for assistance. 

If I am a current BlueCross member, will my access to My Health Toolkit change?

No, you will still be able to log in to your My Health Toolkit account with your existing username and password. 
 

What happens if my BlueCross policy is not active?

You must have an active Blue VirtuConnect policy to access Blue VirtuConnect benefits.

Can dependents who are not on my BlueCross policy use the Blue VirtuConnect platform?

No. Only individuals covered under the Blue VirtuConnect policy can access the platform. 

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.

Doctors Care is a separate company that manages telehealth services on behalf of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
